BuyBack FAQs

Why should I sell my law textbooks?
Many people find they don’t need their textbooks after their law school courses are completed. In addition, even if your school does offer to buy back your textbooks, you’ll find that the prices your school offers often pale in comparison to the higher prices that BarristerBooks.com is willing to pay you (and we’ll even pay for your shipping!). BarristerBooks.com’s BuyBack allows you to get significant value for your textbooks, putting more money in your pocket quickly and with minimum effort!

How does this book BuyBack work?
Selling your law school textbooks to BarristerBooks.com is easy! Just visit our BuyBack center at www.BarristerBooks.com/buyback and:

1) Enter ISBNs & Get Our Best Prices. Enter the ISBNs of the law school textbooks you want to sell, and then click "Get Our Best Prices!". We'll tell you instantly if we are currently purchasing your textbooks, and how much we'll pay for each one, either in cash or BarristerBooks.com credit. You’ll then choose the method of payment you would like for each item you are interested in selling and click "Add My Items to My BuyBack Bag" and then submit your BuyBack order.

2) Provide Payment Information & Print Your Free Shipping Postage Label. To process your payment expeditiously, once you have added your items to your BuyBack Bag, you must either log into an existing BarristerBooks.com account, or, if you don’t already have one, create a new BarristerBooks.com account. Once you do this, you can your submit your BuyBack order, and we'll display your BuyBack confirmation page. Be sure to print out two copies of this confirmation page, one to keep for your records and one to include when you ship your books to us.

Remember that we pay for you to ship your books to us! After you have completed the BuyBack checkout process, we’ll provide you with a link to a USPS postage-paid mailing label that you can use to send us your books.

3) Send Us Your Books! Your textbooks must be postmarked within 7 days from the date you submitted your BuyBack order to guarantee the price quoted to you online. If your textbooks are not postmarked within 7 days of your order, we will pay you the BuyBack price as of the date we receive your package, provided the books are complete and in good condition.

Be sure to include a printed copy of your BuyBack confirmation. Attach the pre-paid USPS mailing label to your package, then drop it in any USPS collection box, give it to your USPS postal carrier, or take it to your local or campus post office.

Important packing and shipping information: Pack your items carefully so they are not damaged in the mail. We HIGHLY recommend that you retain a proof of mailing receipt for your records, obtained at a local post office when dropping off your package. If your textbooks do not make it to our warehouse, we cannot help you unless you have proof of mailing. Because of increased likelihood of damage to your books during shipment, we recommend that you do not use styrofoam packing "peanuts".

4) Get Paid Fast! Once we receive your items and verify that they meet our agreed standards, we will cut you a check or deposit your credit within one business day!

Do you only buy law school textbooks?
At this time, we are only purchasing used copies of law school textbooks, casebooks and supplements. Unfortunately, we are not currently purchasing used copies of law student study aids, legal practitioner books or legal reference materials.

Does it matter where I bought the books that I want to sell back?
Nope! No matter where you bought them, BarristerBooks.com will buy them back!

Where can I find the ISBN of my book?
The ISBN is a 13-digit or 10-digit number (i.e 0-314-23138-7) often found on the back cover of textbooks. Alternatively, open the front cover and look on the page immediately following title page. See a copyright notice? The page with copyright notice should also contain the ISBN.

In what condition should the books I sell back be?
We purchase books in order to resell them as “used” textbooks on BarristerBooks.com, and thus we expect all books being sold to BarristerBooks.com to be in “Very Good” condition upon their arrival in our warehouse in order for you to receive your promised compensation. A “Very Good” condition book contains highlighting or handwriting on less than 25% of the total pages in the book, although any writing in the book must not obscure the text print. A book in “Very Good” condition is clean in appearance with no torn pages and with the binding and cover completely intact. Textbooks with water/mildew damage, swollen pages, stains, and/or pages sticking together are not considered in “Very Good” condition.

Once your textbooks arrive in our warehouse, an inspector will check to make sure your books meet our quality standard and, if so, clear your books for payment. Books we receive that are not in “good condition” will not be returned and you will receive no compensation for these items.

If you are not sure whether or not your book is acceptable, simply ask yourself if you would purchase it in its present condition.

You'll pay to ship my books to you? Is that true?
Yes! We’ll cover the shipping expense for you to send us your books. From your BuyBack order confirmation screen, you can access, print and cut out the pre-paid USPS mailing label and affix it to the package containing your books. Then just drop your package off at your nearest post office.

Important packing and shipping information: Pack your items carefully so they are not damaged in the mail. Because of increased likelihood of damage to your books during shipment, we recommend that you do not use styrofoam packing "peanuts". We HIGHLY recommend that you retain a proof of mailing receipt for your records, obtained at a local post office when dropping off your package. If your textbooks do not make it to our warehouse, we cannot help you unless you have proof of mailing. Any additional insurance, tracking and/or shipping charges, such as expedited shipping, will be your responsibility.

Can I use a shipping method other than the pre-paid USPS mailing label?
Yes, you may send books to us using different shipping methods. However, please note that BarristerBooks.com will not be responsible (financially or physically) for any non-USPS shipments.

How much time do I have to send you my books?
Once you complete the online BuyBack process and print out your BuyBack confirmation page, you will have 7 days to mail your books to us. This does not mean that we have to receive your books within 7 days. It simply means that your shipment must be postmarked within 7 days. In other words, your books must be on their way to us within 7 days of your completion of the BuyBack process.

If your textbooks are not postmarked within 7 days of your order, we will pay you the BuyBack price as of the date we receive your package, provided the books are complete and in good condition.

What happens if I mail in my books after the 7-day mailing deadline?
As long as you drop your items in the mail within 7 days and your package’s postmark reflects this, your quoted prices are guaranteed. If you don't make it to the post office in time, just submit a new BuyBack order. If we receive books on an expired order we'll do our best to honor the expired quote, but this is not guaranteed.

What do I need to know about packaging and shipping the books I’m selling?
Pack your books securely in a box or carton so they are not damaged in transit. A box is preferred over a padded mailer or other envelope, as these methods provide less protection. We do NOT recommend the use of styrofoam packing "peanuts" as they do not provide adequate stability for your books. Use carton sealing tape to securely seal the box. Do not use scotch or masking tape. Cover up or mark out any addresses and barcodes from prior mailings. We HIGHLY recommend that you retain a proof of mailing receipt for your records because we are unable to accept responsibility for packages you ship that do not arrive at our warehouse.

Unless you can provide delivery confirmation (i.e. by using a trackable method of delivery), we are not responsible for any loss, theft or damages incurred during delivery to our warehouse. Any claims will be between the sender and its carrier, i.e., the U.S. Postal Service.

What paper work do I need to include in my package?
Please include a copy of your printed confirmation inside the package of books you are selling. If you no longer have a copy of your printed confirmation, please include a copy of the confirmation email sent to you immediately after you completed the your BuyBack.

How soon will I get paid?
Once your textbooks arrive in our warehouse, an inspector will check to make sure your books meet our quality standard and, if so, clear your books for payment. We generally process your payment within one business day within receiving your books!

How do I make a change to my BuyBack order?
If you want to make changes to your order before sending us your items, please submit a new BuyBack order. Be aware that if the items you send us don't match the items listed on your BuyBack confirmation, your payment may be delayed.

How do you determine your pricing?
The price we offer for a used law school textbook is based on its future value. The most important determining factor is whether an item is a current edition being reused from semester to semester or its current popularity. Demand for the item and how many copies we currently have in stock also determine value. The earlier you sell back your textbooks, the more they're worth and the more likely it is that we'll buy them.

Because we buy only law school textbooks, you'll find that BarristerBooks.com offers some of the highest buyback prices anywhere for your law school books.

Can I get my books back if I change my mind?
Unfortunately, we cannot return submitted textbooks once they have arrived at our warehouse.

I have several copies of the same ISBN to sell back. Can I do this?
We can only accept up to 2 copies of the same ISBN on one BuyBack order. If you have more than 2 copies to sell, please feel free to place another separate BuyBack order. However, note that we cannot guarantee that two separate BuyBack orders for the same ISBN will result in an identical BuyBack price quote.

Does BarristerBooks.com also sell used law school textbooks?
Yes! BarristerBooks.com offers many of our law school textbook titles in in both new and used versions. Just use our search tools (in the top navigation bar of every page) to find the book you need, and you'll often see two versions, one new and one used.

Note that our inventory of used law school textbook titles fluctuates much more than our inventory of new law school textbook titles and cannot always be restocked promptly once stock is exhausted.
