Need to return your rental at the end of, or after, your rental period?

If you have a rental book that is at the end of its rental period, please use the interactive returns process here. Enter your Order # (Order # should have 4 leading zeros, if your order # is 12345 please enter 000012345) and your shipping Zip Code, and select "RENTAL" as your return reason, then print out your shipping label. Drop off your package with a postal carrier or your local post office and make sure to have them scan the label. Customers are responsible for the rental until the package has been scanned by USPS. Rentals returned at the end of the rental period are excluded from a return label fee. (Note: If you are returning you rental for a refund (i.e returning within the 30 day Return period), a return label fee will be charged.)

Need to return your purchase for a refund?

At BarristerBooks.com, we realize that, for one reason or another, you may need to return an item purchased from our website. Although most law bookstores often have strict no-return policies (particularly law school bookstores), we have endeavored to craft as flexible a Return Policy as possible. You may return most items purchased at BarristerBooks.com within 30 days of receipt of your order.

All items must be returned in their original condition. Items returned with obvious use such as highlighting or writing on any pages may not be refunded or may be partially refunded.

We have provided these Frequently Asked Questions about our Return Policy so that you'll have all the information you need. However, if you have any questions that are not addressed below, please don't hesitate to contact us at custserv@barristerbooks.com.

1) Identify items and create mailing label:

To begin your return and create a prepaid USPS label, use our interactive returns process here. (Printer required). You will need your order # and the order's ship-to zip code.
NOTE: There is flat return shipping fee of $7.00 per package that will be deducted from the refund amount for discretionary returns. If the return weighs more than 10 lbs for one or more items we will deduct the actual return shipping cost. Please ship the items with adequate packaging material to avoid damage.

*Rentals returned at the at the end of the rental period are excluded from a return label fee.

2) Prepare your package:

Pack your return securely to avoid damage and include a copy of your packing slip or order confirmation email. You are responsible to ensure the book arrives in good condition. Affix your shipping label to the package, making sure no other tracking labels are showing.

3) Ship it:

When your package is ready give it to your USPS mail carrier, drop it off at your nearest post office, or schedule a free at-home pick-up.

What happens next?

We refund the cost of the returned merchandise within 7 days of the delivery and send you an email to confirm that the return has been completed. If the refund is applied to your credit card, your credit card company may take up to 10 additional business days to post the refund to your account.

NOTE: If you choose not to use our prepaid shipping label, shipment is at your expense. Also, we do not refund original shipping charges.

Return FAQs

How long do I have to return an item to BarristerBooks.com?

You may return most items purchased at BarristerBooks.com within 30 days of receipt of your order. Some items, however are not eligible for return. (Please see: What items cannot be returned for a refund?)

Where do I send my returns? How should I send my return?

You should send your returns, packaged adequately to avoid damage, to: LawBooks.com, Attn: Returns Dept., 615 Florida Street, Lawrence, KS 66044. For your security, we recommend that returns be shipped to us via a trackable shipping method, such as USPS Priority Mail, UPS Ground or FedEx. You can use our interactive returns process here.

What should I include when I return an item?

Please include a copy of your packing slip or order confirmation email in your return package.

What happens if my package is returned as "Undeliverable" or "Refused"?

If an item is returned to us as undeliverable due to incorrect/incomplete address information, you will receive a refund minus the return shipping costs. If you refuse a delivery, the order will be refunded after all applicable restocking and/or return shipping fees are deducted. An item is considered "refused" when you do not open the box and the carrier returns the item to us at no cost to you. Shipping costs are refunded only if the return is a result of our error.

Who is responsible for paying shipping on returned items?

The shipping cost on returned items is the responsibility of the customer, unless the return is a consequence of a damaged, defective or incorrect item. In this case, BarristerBooks.com will provide you with a pre-paid shipping label for your return. (Please see: I received a damaged or defective item. What can I do?)

What happens if I return an item after the 30-day return period or I return an item which is non-returnable?

Returned items received beyond the 30-day return period or that are designated as non-returnable (please see: What items cannot be returned for a refund?) are retained by BarristerBooks.com and no return will be processed for these items. If the customer desires these items to be shipped back to them, the customer must pay the shipping charges for the re-shipment.

What items cannot be returned for a refund?

  • Any CD, DVD, software or cassette tape that has been opened (taken out of its plastic wrap).
  • Any digital downloadable item.
  • Any item that is not in its original shrinkwrapped condition, is damaged, or is missing parts.
  • Any item that is returned more than 30 days after delivery to you. (Any request for re-shipment of these non-returnable items back to the purchaser are at the expense of the purchaser.)

Can I exchange one item for another?

Unfortunately, we cannot process exchanges on items. However, an easy way to effectuate the same exchange is to return your unwanted item (as long as it qualifies for return under these Return Policy guidelines) and immediately place a new order at BarristerBooks.com for your desired item. In this way, both your return and your new order will be processed simultaneously, saving you a great deal of time.

I received the incorrect item and/or incorrect quantities of items. What can I do?

Check the packing slip that was included with your shipment and check your Customer Account Order History to see if the items you received are listed there as well. If so, then the items you received were the items purchased in your shopping cart when you checked out at BarristerBooks.com. You may return the items to us (as long as they qualify for return under these Return Policy guidelines) and immediately place a new order at BarristerBooks.com for your desired item, although BarristerBooks.com cannot refund any shipping costs related to the first or replacement order. If the item(s) you received are not the item(s) indicated either on your packing slip or in your Customer Account Order History, please contact us immediately at custserv@barristerbooks.com and we will rectify the problem by providing you with a pre-paid shipping label for the return to us of the incorrect item, as well as by promptly shipping the correct item to you. Please note that you must contact us within 5 business days of the shipper delivering your incorrect order for us to process this remedy.

I received a damaged or defective item. What can I do?

If the item you received is damaged or defective, please contact us immediately at custserv@barristerbooks.com and we will rectify the problem by providing you with a pre-paid shipping label for the return to us of the damaged/defective item, as well as by promptly shipping a replacement item to you. The replacement item sent to you must be the same item originally purchased. Please note that you must contact us within 5 business days of the shipper delivering your damaged/defective item order for us to process this remedy.

How long does it take for BarristerBooks.com to process my return?

We generally process your return and refund within 7 business days of our receipt of your return in our warehouse.

How long will it take for my return refund to appear on my credit card?

After we process your return, the amount of time it takes for your refund to appear on your credit card statement varies and depends on the amount of time it takes your credit card processor to update its information. This period of time usually can take from 3 - 10 business days.
