Rentals

How do I return my item(s) at the end of my rental period?
Use our Interactive Returns Process and select "RENTAL" as your return reason (no return label fee for rentals returned at the end of the rental period) Pack your books securely — multiple rentals from the same order can be shipped together in one box Drop off your package at USPS. You are responsible for the condition of the book until it arrives back at our warehouse
How long can I keep my rental?
To keep things simple, we rent books for semesters. Depending on when you rent the book, it will be due back at the end of the current semester. If you already have your rental, you can log in to your Customer Account to view your due date under “My Orders/Rentals”.
Can I return a book without using the pre-paid USPS label?
Yes, you can use your own shipping method, however you will be responsible for the cost. Please note that since your package won't show a postmark date in our system, it must arrive at our warehouse by the due date. I get a message during checkout that says I can’t rent because my credit card expires too soon.
The credit card used for your rental must remain active through the month of your rental return. Since credit cards serve as collateral in the event of a late or non-return, we're unable to process a rental order if your card expires before or during the return month.
How can I find when my rental book due?
Your rental due date is displayed throughout the shopping and checkout process. If you've already rented, you can find your due date in your order confirmation email or by logging into your Customer Account under "My Orders/Rentals." You can also call us at 1-866-808-5635 (Monday–Friday, 10am–4pm CST). Please note that rental returns must be postmarked on or before the due date to avoid any late fees.
Do I have to pay for shipping to receive my rental?
As always, all $75+ orders qualify for FREE SHIPPING via USPS Media Mail (4-10 business day delivery). But, if time is of the essence, we offer expedited shipping options as well. You can view our Shipping FAQs here. When it’s time to return your rental, we pick up the tab on any rental returned after 30+ days, and you can print out a pre-paid USPS shipping label from your Customer Account.
Can I return my rental before the end of the semester?
You may return your rental for any reason during the first 30 days of the rental for a full refund of the price of the rental. However, for a fully refunded return, you will have to pay for the return shipping and cannot utilize a pre-paid rental return shipping label. Please note that for discretionary returns, the item must be received in its original condition. If we shipped you a new book without highlighting or writing, it must be returned in the same condition, otherwise, a full refund may not be processed. 
Does my rental need to arrive back to your warehouse by the due date in order to avoid a late fee?
No — your return just needs to be dropped off at a USPS post office or handed to a USPS driver by the due date.  As long as your return is in transit by the due date, no late fee will be charged.
Why rent?
With textbook prices continuing to rise, renting has become an increasingly popular and smart alternative. Renting allows you to get the textbook you need at a fraction of the retail price — and when your semester is over, you simply return it. No hassle, no trying to resell a used copy!
Will I be notified when my return is due?
Yes. We will send a reminder email at least 14 days prior to the end of your rental period with instructions on how to return your rental to us. In addition, we will send you a follow-up email if you have failed to print your return shipping label by the due date.
Can I extend the length of my rental?
Yes! At checkout, simply check the box to extend your rental for an additional semester. A small additional charge will apply.
Can I purchase my rental?
Yes! If you wish to purchase your rental, simply call us at 1-866-808-5635 and have your order number available. We will charge you the retail price of the title less the price you have already paid for the rental and the book will be yours.
I’ve lost or had my return stolen, what can I do!?
While you are in possession of the rental, you are solely responsible for its care and its safe return to our warehouse. If your return shipping label has not been printed by 14 days after your due date, you will be charged full retail price for its replacement.
My rental was damaged, can I still return it?
Rentals are the customer's responsibility throughout the rental period. If a book is returned damaged, a penalty may apply based on the extent of the damage. If you're concerned about the condition of your rental, feel free to call us at 1-866-808-5635 (Monday–Friday, 10am–4pm CST) and we'll be happy to discuss your options.
Can I write in my rental?
Minimal amounts of highlighting and writing are acceptable. Please remember that your current rental will be someone else’s future rental and, as such, don’t go crazy. Excessive writing and/or highlighting may incur a penalty.
How much am I charged if my rental is late?
If your return shipping label has not been printed by your rental due date, a late fee of 10% of the rental cost will be applied. If the label remains unprinted 14 days after the due date, you will be charged the full retail price of a new copy minus your initial rental charge. Please note that late fees are non-refundable.
