This edition of the Constitutional Law: Principles and Policy, Cases and Materials casebook brings to life the excitement and ferment generated by what's new in both case law and law review literature. Selections from that literature are briefer than before but still comprehensive. The authors have put a premium on teachability and brevity, and added a "Table of Justices" and a chapter called "The Structure of Federalism," preceding the federal and state power chapters. This chapter uses McCulloch v. Maryland to introduce the nature of federal power, and U.S. Term Limits v. Thornton to explore the role of state power in the federal structure. Finally, the freedom of expression chapter concludes with a new and separate section on freedom of association. New cases reflecting emerging issues include Romer v. Evans, United States v. Virginia, R.A.V. v. City of St. Paul, International Society of Krishna Consciousness v. Lee, Planned Parenthood of S.E. Pennsylvania v. Casey, and Lujan v. Defenders of Wildlife.

Table of Contents includes:
Constitution Of The United States;
Table Of The Justices;
Introduction: A Brief Overview Of American Constitutionalism;
Judicial Review: Instrument Of American Constitutionalism;
National Powers and Federalism;
State Power In American Federalism;
Executive And Congressional;
Substantive Limits On Governmental Power;
Forms Of Substantive Due Process;
The Meaning Of Equal Protection;
Freedom Of Expression;
Freedom Of Religion: Establishment and Free Exercise;
State Action;
Limitations On Judicial Review.
